Equal opportunities for health: action for development is an education and awareness-building project designed to highlight the importance of approaching health as a fundamental human right closely related to individual social development.

The aim of the project – of which Doctors with Africa CUAMM is the lead organization – is to make European public opinion aware of the close link between health and development and to make the medical and health community – doctors, health providers, lecturers, trainers, and medical students – responsible for taking action.

To promote discussion and dissemination of the Global Health paradigm, understood to be a “panoramic” approach to health, able to theoretically transpose into practice social determinants of health, values of justice and equity identified in the Declaration of Alma Ata, and an analysis of the growing interdependence between populations and countries determined by processes of globalization and its impact on health and health inequalities both in and among countries.

TRAINING

• Academic courses for students of Medicine and from other faculties
• Workshops for doctors and healthcare professionals in collaboration with health and hospital authorities and medical associations
• Training of trainers (for academic and teaching staff) on content and teaching methods

PUBLIC AWARENESS AND COMMUNICATION

• Website dedicated to the project, with documents and references
• Publication of the Health and Development journal, which is also available online
• Production of video documentaries
• Meetings and events for the public
• Organization of an international conference

NETWORKING

• National and international meetings among project partners, experts & professionals, trainers & teaching staff, students.
• Development of new synergies among Global Health stakeholders, at national and European level

STUDYING AND RESEARCH

• Mapping of academic courses on Global Health
• Updating of the standard curriculum on Global Health
• Participation in conferences and focus sessions
• Research on the African health system
• Publication of scientific articles and joint international studies
